This year, I’ve been spending more time on myself. Filling in the cracks to the knowledge that I already have building sites with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) structures. Encouraging my clients to follow the basics of SEO that I’ve written about already. Continue reading “SEO, Marketing and Web Programming, Oh My!”

Search Engine Optimization
You provide keywords in your posts that search engines are looking for. They look through the web when someone uses Google, Bing, Yahoo, or any search engine to find the words the seeker is looking for.
Be an Authority Figure
When you write about your passions on a website, that shows your latest projects for example, you become a person that readers can trust because you are writing about your passions, showing
A major key to ranking high on a search engine is all about the domain name. Have you chosen the right domain name? Think like your customers, what are they looking for to find you. Think back to the beginning when you were sitting in front of the internet for the first time trying to find something you really needed. You used simple keywords. That’s where your mind needs to be when you choose a domain name.
Here’s my personal experience. I’m looking for work as a WordPress designer (designing themes) and I live near Charlotte. When I looked at Indeed for work, I was always putting in ‘graphic designer’, ‘web designer’ or ‘WordPress designer’ and I was looking for those jobs in/near Charlotte.
SEO is Search Engine Optimization
I’m putting this together because average people, mostly laymen, who need websites designed, don’t know the first thing about SEO will say, “Make my website more SEO friendly.” To clarify, I’m thinking about a three-page site with a blog (Home, About, Contact, Blog).
SEO is mostly about the content. Used to be websites had lots of hidden keywords on their pages in the footer hidden in the same color as the background color. That was to build their PageRank (“put me on the first page in Google”). But most recently, Google changed all that with their new algorithms and punished those types of sites and also those types that had bought-in to a backlinking pool. In short, they lost and dropped to the bottom of the search results because Google doesn’t focus on keywords as much. It’s still a good practice to fill out your META description and keywords, but it’s even better to write good content.
